ALL THIS G***h B****s talk got us thinking about the great live music you can enjoy seven nights a week and almost every day of the year in Cork’s Heritage Pubs.
Leeside has been home to many wonderfully incredible music talents over the decades and whether it’s rock, blues, jazz, traditional Irish or a live DJ that floats your boat, the Cork Heritage Pub trail has something for you.
There’s no better spot for a live trad session in Cork city than Sin É. Some of the finest trad musicians in the county can be found playing in the corner of this fine establishment four nights a week (upcoming sessions are detailed here), and nothing can beat the pub’s atmosphere and friendly welcome.
Of all the pubs on the trail though, it’s the Crane Lane Theatre that’s best known for live music gigs in Cork.
The home of Jazz, Blues and Burlesque in Ireland, American singer songwriter Henry Rollins and Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore are amongst those to have graced the boards of the old Theatre’s stage.
With music acts and live DJs seven nights a week until the early hours of the morning, the KC Sessions are another particular highlight to catch when you’re out and about in town. Giving profile to some of the best up-and-coming acts on the local music scene, the sessions gives a real sense of flavour of what’s developing around Cork’s streets.
If it’s something a little edger you’re after, go no further than BDSM Cork on North Main Street, which now hosts live music every week.
Some of the biggest names in the music industry – U2, Michael Jackson, and Oasis – have entertained tens of thousands of people on the banks of the Lee, and the continued popularity of the Live At The Marquee concerts demonstrate just how much the people of this city love a good knees up and a decent show.
The love of music within Cork’s Heritage Pubs is best appreciated by the Southern Gothic festival – a celebration of the best of Blues, Country, Soul, Post-punk, Rock, Groove and Orchestral Pop every May.
Featuring the Crane Lane Theatre as its main venue, the Black Dog Saloon & Mezcalaria, the Mutton Lane Lane Inn, Bodega, Sin É and El Fenix also get in on the act.
Full details of all upcoming events at the Crane can be found here – with further information about the rest of our Cork Heritage Pubs on our Live Music page! Curtains up!
