Reduce your beer miles with Rising Sons Brewery

.

Our beers are proudly made with sustainability and passion in mind in the heart of Cork City

.

Rising Sons is an independent family-owned and family-run microbrewery, which employs 25 people living in the city. Since opening in 2014, Rising Sons has prided itself in making products which are both created in Cork City centre and use only local ingredients where possible. The base malt used in all of our Rising Sons beers is 100% grown and malted within Ireland by Malting Company of Ireland in Togher; located just 3.5km from the brewery. Our aim is to localise the supply chain of all of our products to the best of our ability.

.

Remarkably, 100% of our spent grain produced by the brewing process is then transported to Inniscarra as cattle feed where it used to nourish local farmer Tim Chambers’ cows, ensuring minimal material waste in the production of our products. The brewery itself  uses an energy recovery system, where the heat from the boiling process passes through it, producing hot water which is stored for later use. Brewing is a highly energy intensive process, therefore it is vital to reuse and repurpose excess energy and heat where possible, which in turn reduces our carbon footprint.

95% of draught beer produced by Rising Sons is consumed within 2km of the brewery on Cornmarket street; significantly cutting down on the emissions generally associated with the transport and logistics of getting kegs from brewery to bar, especially in comparison to imported beers. The steel kegs used to store our beers are also more environmentally friendly than disposable bottles and cans, given that they have a 30 year life cycle and are 100% recyclable. This makes draught beer served from stainless steel kegs the most sustainable method of storing and selling craft beers in the modern day – you can find out more from our friends at the Steel Keg Association.

.

The brewery also supplies the entire Cork Heritage Pub trail, ensuring only the finest beers are available across the best pubs the city has to offer. It is worth noting that locally brewed craft beer is the single freshest and most sustainable form of beer a person could possibly enjoy given that it spends very little time in storage before going to the bar and straight into your glass. So make sure to reduce your beer miles this year and drink straight from the source!
